REX ORANGE COUNTY – PONY

Rex Orange County has released his third album, and at 33 minutes total running time Pony is, to put it in the artist Alexander O’Connor’s native tongue, all brill – no fill. 

Pony is at times synthy and digital as on album opener ’10/10′, before sliding into O’Connor’s trademark lackadaisical neo-soul swagger on tracks ‘Always’ and ‘Laser Lights’. 

O’Connor’s voice is immediately warm and familiar even if you haven’t heard a Rex Orange County song before, and its professional, sparkling quality is what makes his crooning of contemporary conversational lyrics like “I never had the balls to tell you” so appealing.
