It’s always been our dream and mission to build a venue that fills the void left by Festival Hall and we are proud of the vision we’ve created for The Fortitude Music Hall. The Fortitude Music Hall is the largest ballroom/theatre-styled venue in Australia, with a 3,000 person standing and a 1,200 seated theatre style capacity. Our goal is to create a venue that will enhance the area and one that the community will enjoy and benefit from for many years to come. We are doing this for Brisbane. We are doing this for Live music.

Our History

Our History

The concept first started when Scott Hutchinson of Hutchinson Builders purchased a large commercial building in the heart of the Brunswick Street Mall. The team behind The Triffid, Secret Sounds (The Falls Festival & Splendour in The Grass) and Live Nation (The leading force behind iconic venues worldwide such as House of Blues and Fillmore Theatres) joined forces to bring you The Fortitude Music Hall. The team travelled across the world and visited leading edge venues to research what makes a venue great. Many glasses of Pinot later FMH was born.

Our Inspiration

We drew inspiration from beautiful Art Deco theatres and venues that existed in Brisbane, yet were torn down in the 80s. Our main influence came from 3 specific venues – Cloudland, Festival Hall and The Fillmore Philadelphia.

Cloudland

Cloudland

Cloudland was without doubt one of the best dance and concert venues in the country. The venue was a classic World War II structure. Inside it had hard timber floors, decorative columns, sweeping curtains, domed skylights and chandeliers.

Fillmore Theatre

The Fillmore Philadelphia

The Fillmore Philadelphia is a spectacular, multi-faceted 40,000 square-foot venue. Completely renovated and home to a beautiful and state-of the-art 2,500 – 3,000 person capacity live music club, this versatile space is the perfect blend of rock and elegance, both classic and cutting edge.

Festival Hall

Festival Hall

Festival Hall is a significant part of Brisbane’s cultural heritage, fast forward and its absence is still being felt due to its size. Festival Hall was gritty, atmospheric and above all exclusive to Brisbane in its ability to capture a mood and a real concert feel. We’ve brought all of those elements together to create a venue we are proud to present to The Brisbane community.
