Friday Five With Methyl Ethel

Fri 15 Apr

We had a chat with Jake from Methyl Ethel to see what his 5 favourite ways to see a show are!

  1. Up close Some of, if not the best show experiences I’ve ever had were watching some of my most beloved bands from right at the barrier. It definitely takes a certain amount of stamina but is ultimately always worth it. An absolute bucket list way to see a show.
  2. On screenAn underrated way to watch live music, albeit one that doesn’t help our already troubled industry. If you ever get the chance to watch ‘Stop Making Sense’ the Talking Heads live film at a cinema, do it.
  3. Side of stageOnce you get over how obnoxious you look to all those not watching from your vantage point, watching a band side side of stage is really great. This is where you really get to peek behind the curtain, literally and metaphorically.
  4. MixingWhether you’re mixing the show yourself or just standing with or close to the mixing engineer, this is 9/10 the best sounding place to watch any show. This is probably the place I mostly end up in the room.
  5. Hanging backWhen you’re with your crew, and you’ve found some space, hanging back and establishing a vibe can be an all time way to see a show.
